December 2,1981 the popstar Britney Jean Spears was born. Growing up she lived in a small house in Kentwood, Louisiana with her older brother Bryan, younger sister Jamie Lynn, and her parent's Jamie and Lynn Spears. In the words of her mother "One thing you should know about Brit: this desire to perform didn't just pop up over night."

Britney began taking Dance lessons at age three, of course she was performing for her family and neighbors long before that. Britney didn't just limit herself to dancing though. At age seven she began taking gymnastics but quit a few years later because it seemed like she was working instead of enjoyment. When Britney was ten years old, she traveled to NYC for acting classes bringing along her mom and infant sister. While there she tried out for the All New Micky Mouse Club, a Disney child's series. Even though her performance was spectacular, she didn't get the part because she wasn't old enough yet. However, she did have some accomplishments that year. She won the title Miss Talent USA and a category on "Star Search." She was then offered a role in the Broadway Production Ruthless. It was based on a famous movie called The Bad Seed. Britney really enjoyed the part. After that she was offered to star in the movie Gordy but turned it down because she was old enough to be in the Mickey Mouse Club. Remembering this Britney said she was glad she didn't take the part in the movie because it didn't do so well. Besides she would have missed out on all those great times in MMC, which she did until the show canceled during her second season. Britney wasn't the only star-to-be on the show. Her now ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chasez of NYSync, Kerri Russel of "Felicity," Christina Agulara, and Ryan Gosling the voice of young Hercules, were also on the show. At age 14, when the show canceled, Britney went back home for her freshman year. However, it wasn't long till she was she was on the road again. "[High school] was fun" she said "for a while, but I started getting itchy to get again and see the world."

When Britney was 15, she sent in her first demo tape " . . . Baby One More Time." After being rejected by two of the three labels she sent a copy to Jive Records gave her a contract. She then flew all the way to Sweden to record her first album. During her free time that year she began dating Jason Geddert but they later broke up because of the distance. Britney also liked admiring Ben Afleck, sleeping, and pigging out on icecream when she was down. All of which she still does, except up until last January she was dating Justin Timberlake.

After completing her single she began her tours, performing in shopping malls across the U.S., opening for NSync for their tour, and that October her single " . . . Baby One More Time" was released. In 1999 both her album and her single hit #1 on Popcharts and began tour openings for LFO. That year Britney was also voted 1 of Teen Peoples "21 Hottest stars under 21", won an American Music Award for Favorite New Pop-Rock Artist, four MTV Europe Music Awards, Female Artist of the Year, and New Artist of the Year at the 1999 Billboard Awards. When Britney was 18 she established the Britney Spears Foundation, a summer camp for young performers, released "Oops . . . I did it again!" also hitting #1 on music charts, and released "Heart to Heart", a book she co-wrote with her mom.

Britney's career has been very successful for a woman her age. People admire her for having done so much in such short time, and being able to balance a social life with all the critics trying to tear her down. If those people really got to know her, they might like her. At the least give her a chance. I don't know why people make such a big deal about what she's wearing or if her chest is fake. Lots of other people have had those types of surgeries and her clothes are cute. I think they could stand to be a little longer but other than that I think other people would copy them. The critics are just jealous they aren't as pretty as she is and wish they had a body like that. Britney has so much talent that she hasnt even shown us yet. As a matter of fact, she has a new cd coming out this year. As one of her fans, I can't wait to see what she will surprise us with next.
